HOSA

American Healthcare Apprenticeships (AHA) is proud to support HOSA both formally and informally—formally through co-sponsorship of the Biomedical Equipment Technician (BMET) Competition, and informally by guiding students from pre-apprenticeship to Registered Apprenticeship pathways across multiple healthcare careers.

The BMET Competition, co-sponsored by the College of Biomedical Equipment Technology, the Association for the Advancement of Medical Instrumentation, and AHA, introduces students to a vital and often overlooked healthcare profession. BMETs are the experts who ensure that critical medical equipment—such as patient monitors, imaging systems, and life-support devices—remains safe, reliable, and ready when lives depend on it. Students who compete are eligible to sit for AAMI’s Certified Associate in Biomedical Technology (CABT) exam, a nationally recognized credential that can open doors in this high-demand field. Participation also provides a direct bridge to nationally approved Registered Apprenticeship programs, giving students a clear pathway from exploration to career entry in healthcare technology. Other Healthcare Pathways: Beyond BMET, AHA supports HOSA students with pre-apprenticeship to Registered Apprenticeship opportunities in Medical Assisting, Medical Front Office, Patient Care Technician, Phlebotomy, and other high-demand roles—broadening the range of careers students can explore and pursue.
